White House Fake News
by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)
On April 4, a White House Office of the Press Secretary said the following:
“The military mission to eradicate ISIS in Syria is coming to a rapid end, with ISIS being almost completely destroyed.”
“The United States and our partners remain committed to eliminating the small ISIS presence in Syria that our forces have not already eradicated.”
“We will continue to consult with our allies and friends regarding future plans. We expect countries in the region and beyond, plus the United Nations, to work toward peace and ensure that ISIS never re-emerges.”
Last Thursday, Trump lied saying “we’re knocking the hell out of ISIS. We’ll be coming out of Syria, like, very soon,” adding:
“Let the other people take care of it now. Very soon – very soon we’re coming out. We’re going to have 100 percent of the caliphate, as they call it.”
“But we’re going to be coming out of there real soon. Going to get back to our country where we belong, where we want to be.”
On Tuesday, he said “I want to get out. I want to bring our troops back home. I want to start rebuilding our nation.”
“We will have, as of three months ago, spent $7 trillion in the Middle East the last seven years. We get nothing out of it, nothing.”
“Seven trillion dollars over 17 year period, we have nothing – nothing except death and destruction. It’s a horrible thing.”
Fact: Since taking office, Trump escalated war in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen and Somalia – despite promising while campaigning to go another way.
Fact: Washington created and supports ISIS. No mission to eradicate its fighters exists – just the opposite.
Fact: America and its rogue partners are committed to regime change in Syria and all other sovereign independent countries.
Fact: Their alliance is committed to endless wars of aggression, peace and stability anathema notions in Washington, London, and other key NATO capitals.
On Wednesday, the White House backtracked from Trump’s earlier comments, saying Washington is committed to remaining in Syria until ISIS is defeated – failing to explain US support for the terrorist group and all others in Syria, the region and elsewhere.
Generals in charge of Trump’s geopolitical policy oppose peaceful conflict resolution in all US war theaters. So do incoming Secretary of State Pompeo and new national security advisor Bolton.
America came to Syria to stay. It didn’t wage war on the country to quit. Ongoing endlessly in its eighth year, resolving it remains unattainable because neocons infesting Washington reject peace and stability.
Trump’s remarks bear no relation to reality on the ground. He has a habit of shooting from the hip, then backtracking on comments made.
Like most other politicians, especially Western ones, believe nothing they say. Follow only what they do. They have a disturbing habit of saying one thing, then doing another.
