Russophobic G7 Meeting in Toronto

Russophobic G7 Meeting in Toronto

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)

Foreign ministers from America, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and Canada, along with EU political chief Federica Mogherini met for two days of talks in Toronto.

Russia, Syria, Iran and North Korea were among topics discussed.

US acting Secretary of State John Sullivan laughably said Washington “wholeheartedly supports…building a more peaceful and secure world for all” – while its forces and allies continue waging naked aggression in multiple countries.

Sullivan turned truth on its head, accusing Iran of “destabilizing activities…supporting terrorist organizations, launching cyber attacks, threatening international shipping interests, and committing unconscionable human rights abuses.”

He falsely accused Syria of “us(ing) chemical weapons to kill and injure hundreds of its own people.”

He lied saying Washington “remain(s) committed in Syria” to defeat ISIS, the terror group it created and supports.

He recited a litany of Russophobic Big Lies, accusing Moscow of impeding peace in Syria it’s going all-out to achieve, failing because of US imperial aims.

Saying The Kremlin failed to “honor its Minsk commitments” turned truth on its head. Calling on Russia “to return control of Crimea to Ukraine” insulted Moscow and the overwhelming majority of Crimeans voting to rejoin Russia to correct a historic mistake.

A senior State Department official said “(t)here was G7 unity opposing (nonexistent) Russia(n) malign behavior” – a US specialty, not Moscow’s.

The Toronto session preceded G7 leaders meeting in Charlevoix, Quebec on June 7-8.

Host Canadian Foreign Minister  Chrystia Freeland embarrassed herself, saying G7 ministers expressed concern about (nonexistent) Russian destabilizing activities, adding:

“The G7 countries are committed to preventing, stopping and responding to foreign interference.”

“There are consequences for those who seek to undermine our democracies,” disgracefully pointing fingers mainly at Russia.

Canada is a founding member of NATO’s killing machine. Dominated by Washington, it represents a profound threat to world peace and stability.

So-called “democratic institutions” Freeland referred to are pure fantasy, notably in America’s one-party state with two extremist right wings.

Clownish UK Foreign Minister Boris Johnson roared:

“What we decided…was that we were going to set up a G7 group that would look at Russian malign behavior in all its manifestations – whether it’s cyber warfare, whether it’s disinformation, assassination attempts, whatever it happens to be, and collectively try to call it out.”

The Tory regime he represents is allied with US aggression in multiple war theaters.

On Tuesday, Sergey Lavrov responded to unacceptable Russophobic remarks by G7 ministers, saying hostility toward Russia during their meeting was “obvious,” adding:

“We will patiently defend our position, wait until our partners realize that such policy is a dead end.”

Washington, Britain and France are sworn enemies, not “partners.” Patience fails to be a virtue when national security threats aren’t forcefully challenged.

US-led hostility toward Russia threatens to explode into something much more serious. It may be just a matter of time.
