WaPo Calls for Legislating Greater Toughness on Russia
by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)
On Wednesday, Trump signed an executive order – aimed at deterring nonexistent Russian midterm election meddling, intending tougher regime sanctions on the country over nothing.
Not a shred of evidence suggests earlier or forthcoming meddling by Russia or any other countries in America’s political process. Claims otherwise are bald-faced lies.
The neocon/CIA house organ Washington Post called Trump’s shameful new executive order (EO) “insufficient.”
It includes “measures that could be capable of devastating an interfering country’s economy,” according to a regime statement.
WaPo said the new EO gives Trump and regime officials “much discretion.” It’s their call on how to respond to phony allegations of US election meddling.
WaPo called for Congress to legislate greater toughness. Despite no evidence suggesting possible Russian or other foreign interference in US midterm elections, the broadsheet urged issuing a “warning of massive retaliation” over nothing.
It called regime “credibility…in short supply…after Mr. Trump’s obsequious performance before Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki” – code language, saying responsible diplomacy is bad policy, confrontation, belligerence, and maybe full-scale aggression is what’s needed.
According to WaPo, bipartisan Senate hardliners “are getting closer to imposing a more robust deterrence policy.”
Two measures were introduced, including the so-called DETER (Defending Elections from Threats by Establishing Redlines), Act (S. 2785).
Russophobic Republicans and undemocratic Dems support it, aiming to prevent nonexistent Russian or other foreign interference in US elections – calling for toughness and deterrence over nothing, part of endless Russia bashing.
WaPo: “One idea is to meet future (nonexistent) Kremlin aggression with tough, automatic sanctions” – especially targeting Russia’s energy and financial sectors, going all-out to harm the country’s economy.
The scheme consistently failed since adopted following the Obama regime’s coup d’etat in Ukraine, replacing democracy with fascist tyranny.
“…Trump could be legally required to impose” tough sanctions legislated by Congress, said WaPo, targeting Russia’s economy and public officials, adding:
“Given Mr. Trump’s past weakness on Mr. Putin, whatever policy that results must present the Kremlin with a sure, credible deterrent. To that end, it would be better if it were written into law rather than just an executive order.”
“It would also be better if it came sooner rather than later. As it stands, there is little time for deterrence before November’s vote. The message from now through 2020 must be clear and consistent.”
No threat to the US exists – not to its security, electoral process, or anything else. Claims otherwise are bald-faced lies.
US policy toward Russia and other sovereign independent nations risks greater wars of aggression than already – including possible global war if bipartisan lunatics in Washington push things too far.
