Trump’s Dirty Business as Usual Middle East Agenda

Trump’s Dirty Business as Usual Middle East Agenda

Time and again, when US policymakers announce a new dawn, everything stays the same or deteriorates.

Tuesday at the White House was the latest deception during an orchestrated signing ceremony.

The so-called Abraham Accords Peace Agreement has nothing to do with Middle East peace and stability.

Trump hosted Israel’s Netanyahu, UAE foreign minister Abdullah bin Zayed, and his Bahraini counterpart Abdullatif Al-Zayan for the White House signing ceremony.

The elaborate charade was reminiscent of Edward Said’s denunciation of the September 1993 Oslo Accords White House signing ceremony, at the time saying:

“The fashion-show vulgarities of the White House ceremony, the degrading spectacle of Yasser Arafat thanking everyone for the suspension of most of his people’s rights, and the fatuous solemnity of Bill Clinton’s performance, like a 20th century Roman emperor shepherding two vassal kings through rituals of reconciliation and obeisance, (and) the truly astonishing proportions of the Palestinian capitulation.”

Then it was unilateral surrender to Israel and the West, a Palestinian Versailles.

Tuesday’s White House ceremony formally affirmed what already existed in principle.

The UAE and Bahrain officially abandoned the Palestinian cause by formally allying with Israel.

Left unexplained in Western media reports was that as long as Palestinians aren’t afforded equity, justice, freedom from Israeli occupation, and self-determination, regional peace and stability will remain elusive.

Formal despotic UAE and Bahrain relations with apartheid Israel makes it easier for the Jewish state to annex all valued parts of historic Palestine it wishes — what’s been going on incrementally for over half a century, the world community doing nothing to stop it.

After the UAE/Israeli deal was announced, Netanyahu said annexation is “still on the table,” what his regime is “committed to” — with full US support from both right wings of its one-party state.

What unofficially existed for some time is now formally established between Israel and the two Arab states, including diplomatic relations — embassies to be opened and envoys announced.

When news of the UAE deal was reported, PLO executive committee member Hanan Ashrawi slammed it as follows, saying:

“The UAE has come out in the open on its secret dealings/normalization with Israel.”

“Please don’t do us a favor. We are nobody’s fig leaf!”

“May you never experience the agony of having your country stolen.”

“May you never feel the pain of living in captivity under occupation.”

“May you never witness the demolition of your home or murder of your loved ones.”

“May you never be sold out by your ‘friends.’ ”

Tiny Bahrain, a nation of about 1.5 million people, is home to the US Fifth Fleet.

Like the Saudis and UAE, the Bahraini Al Khalifa monarchy  is notorious for horrific civil and human rights abuses, imprisoning, torturing, and eliminating anyone challenging its dictatorial rule.

Human rights champions are most vulnerable. In early 2020, the London-based Bahrain Institute for Rights and Democracy (BIRD) provided hard evidence of systematic brutality against dissent by the regime.

Wrongfully imprisoned human rights champion Abdulhadi al-Khawaja’s daughter Maryam tweeted:

“The majority of the people of Bahrain…have always stood against the oppression, occupation and apartheid against the people of #Palestine.”

“I’m proud of the people who fight injustice locally and have always stood with justice #Palestine. Bahrain is it’s people, the regimes only represent themselves.”

In response to Tuesday’s White House signing ceremony, Iranian Foreign Minister Zarif tweeted the following:

“@realDonaldTrump desperately needed a campaign photo.”

“His son-in-law (Jared Kushner) blackmailed their regional clients into giving him one.”

“The only problem: ‘Peace agreements’ being signed are NOT between foes but longstanding allies.”

Tuesday’s White House ceremony was a “diplomatic coup…Stay tuned for more” hardline Arab regimes formally normalizing already normal relations with Israel.

Deputy Hezbollah head Sheikh Naim Qassem said the following in response the latest formal betrayal of the Palestinian cause by the UAE and Bahrain:

“A trump card in the hands of the Zionist regime (lets it) exert more pressure on the Palestinians in order to deprive them of their rights.”

It’s more evidence that “efforts for the liberation of Palestine and Jerusalem al-Quds…will not be possible except through military resistance along with other forms of resistance, namely cultural, political, social resistance.”

“This is the only way forward for us.”

The UAE and Bahrain are the 3rd and 4th Arab states to formally normalize relations with Israel.

Capitulation to imperial USA and apartheid Israel against the Palestinian cause is another blow to regional peace and stability.

Is Saudi/Israeli normalization next?

Are other hardline Arab regimes poised to capitulate to Washington and Israel by formally abandoning the Palestinian cause?
