Pompeo Calls for Crushing Venezuelan Social Democracy

Pompeo Calls for Crushing Venezuelan Social Democracy

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)

Both wings of the US war party never met a sovereign democratic government it didn’t want ousted for pro-Western tyrannical rule.

It’s the objective of all US wars by hot and other means, smashing and suffocating countries to control them — what the scourge of imperialism is all about.

On December 6, Venezuelans will elect 277 National Assembly members for the 2021 – 2026 term.

Number of deputies is 110 more than currently.

According to the country’s National Electoral Council (CNE),  28 national political organizations, 52 regional parties and six representing indigenous peoples will participate in December elections.

Maduro stressed that large-scale diverse participation in the upcoming process “strengthens democracy and peace in the country” because of greater proportional representation, smaller parties encouraged to participate.

US-designated puppet Guaido opted out on orders from Trump regime hardliners.

Because pro-Bolivarian social democracy candidates are likely to win a majority of parliamentary seats, Pompeo said the following in early September:

“Conditions for free and fair elections do not exist in Venezuela (sic),” adding:

“We, and our democratic partners in Venezuela (sic) and the international community (sic), will not” recognize what independent monitors call the open, free and fair Bolivarian process whenever elections in the country are held.

It’s why the US and its imperial partners reject them — wanting regimes subservient to Western interests installed everywhere.

Anti-Bolivarian elements are split on participating. Guaido and dark forces with him opting out.

Former opposition presidential candidate Henrique Capriles called on anti-Bolivarian elements to “mobilize” and participate in December elections.

By letter to the UN and EU, Maduro invited their representatives to participate as “international observers.”

As expected, Pompeo argued against it, wanting no evidence of Bolivarian fairness highlighted on he world stage.

Earlier he defied reality, saying Venezuelan “elections that represent the will of the people are impossible (sic)” — what applies to the US and West, clearly not the Bolivarian Republic.

Following a Latin American four-nation tour, shoring up support against Bolivarian social democracy, Pompeo again called for toppling Maduro, saying:

“Venezuela needs democracy (sic) and an end to…Maduro.”

So-called Latin American Lima Group countries allied with the US against Venezuela in 2017.

At the time, the group of 12 included Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Canada and Peru.

Since Alberto Fernandez and Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner  were elected in Argentina as well as Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador in Mexico, they split with the US rage for regime change in Venezuela.

On September 24, Trump’s  Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctioned five Venezuelan MPs on the phony pretext of seeking “to manipulate (December) parliamentary elections.”

Turning truth on its head, Treasury Secretary Mnuchin claimed that the action aims to support a “free and fair election” the US tolerates nowhere.

Targeted MPs were sanctioned for breaking with Guaido’s call to boycott December elections by announcing they’ll run.

Illegal US sanctions freeze any US-based assets they may have and prohibit US businesses, entities and individuals from having dealings with them.

In response, Maduro slammed the Trump regime, saying he and his government “reject all measures of extortion, blackmail and persecution,” how “a mafia” operates.

During his General Assembly address on Wednesday, Maduro said the following:

“Venezuela has prepared to overcome the US blockade.”

It’s engaged in “a battle for peace, for the homeland, for the region, for humanity, where our heroic people have assumed, as in the past, their historical role in the face of the ignominy of the most dangerous empire in universal history.”

“We ratify that Venezuela is preparing to resist this offensive of criminal and inhuman aggression.”

Reiterating his call for UN and EU observers to monitor December elections, he “invited the world to join us” — to witness Bolivarian social democracy in action, adding:

“In faithful compliance with the Constitution and our right to self-determination, next December 6, we will renew the Legislative Power.”

“A democratic process that has all the guarantees for the people to exercise their sovereignty and elect their new deputies.”

He urged world solidarity for “an end of all unilateral coercive measures and that our people be allowed to exercise their own rights” with no foreign interference.
