Dem or Republican Regime in Charge, US Hostility Toward Iran Unchanged
by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)
Longstanding US hostility toward Iran is all about its sovereign independence, its freedom from imperial control — not because of any threats posed by the country.
There are none, nor to any other nations — other than in self-defense if attacked, the UN Charter right of all countries.
Both right wings of the US war party tolerate no nations unwilling to subordinate their sovereign rights to their imperial interests.
If Biden/Harris succeed Trump in January, hardline US policy toward Iran will remain at least largely unchanged.
Unlawful sanctions will remain in place, new ones likely imposed.
If Biden/Harris consider returning to the JCPOA Trump unlawfully abandoned, they’ll likely demand new unacceptable terms no sovereign state should accept.
The illusion of foreign interference in US elections persists despite no evidence ever suggesting it.
Yet days earlier, US Cyber Command chief General Paul Nakasone claimed he acted to prevent foreign interference ahead of November 3 elections.
Left unsaid was that there was none planned to prevent.
Claiming he protected the US “democratic process” failed to explain that none exists to protect — Trump v. Biden/Harris the latest example.
Most all Trump remarks are false and misleading.
Yet like broken clocks twice daily, he’s right saying electoral fraud stole his triumph in Michigan and Wisconsin, likely in one or more other swing states as well.
Claims by unnamed US officials about threatening emails sent to US voters in various states by Iran included no supportive evidence because there is none.
Throughout US history, never did evidence surface about foreign meddling — for at least one good reason.
What purpose would it serve when US elections always turn out the same way.
On virtually all things geopolitical alone, both right wings of the US war party are hostile toward all sovereign independent nations.
US DNI John Ratcliffe lied claiming Iran and Russia obtained voter registration information to disrupt the November 3 election.
Whenever these claims are made about nations on the US target list for regime change, they’re fabricated.
Despite no Iranian threat, Trump’s Justice Department said it seized 27 domains used by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) it falsely claimed spread global covert influence campaigns.
Weeks earlier, domains belonging to Iraq’s militia group Ketaib Hezbollah were seized — on the phony pretext of being a terrorist group linked to Iran.
Following US November 3 US elections, Reuters quoted Iranian President Hassan Rouhani saying the following:
“For Tehran, the next US administration’s policies are important and not who wins the US election.
At the same time, he slammed Trump for increasing unlawful sanctions at a time when Iran is struggling to contain covid disease outbreaks,” adding:
The US “did not adhere to any human principles, human rights and international laws and regulations, but at the same time I am sure that the Iranian nation will ultimately win.”
Despite everything the Trump regime threw at Iran since early 2017, its national projects continue unhampered.
Separately, Iran’s UN envoy Majid Takht Ravanchi condemned US war by other means on the country, saying:
The US, “using coercive measures as an instrument of its foreign policy throughout the past years, has imposed unlawful sanctions against Iran.”
“Its unacceptable behavior has continued unabated and even intensified following its withdrawal from the JCPOA…”
Trump “brazenly announced that ‘sanctions will go into full effect’ in order to reach their ‘highest level’ and create for Iran ‘bigger problems than it has ever had before.’ ”
Challenging the US judicially in international tribunals are exercises in futility.
When rulings go against its wars on humanity, its authorities ignore them.
It’s how all hegemons operate, serving their own interests exclusively at the expense of others.
US war on Iran by other means will continue whether Trump or Biden serves as president over the next four years.
There’s always a risk of things turning hot.
What’s unlikely is possible so Iran must be prepared for what could happen if over-the-top hawks in Washington and Tel Aviv get their way.
