Endless Iran Bashing by US Media
by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)
In stark contrast to silence about nuclear armed and dangerous Israel, its long war on defenseless Palestinians, its use of chemical, biological, radiological and other banned weapons, establishment media invent reasons to bash nonthreatening Iran relentlessly.
Last week, the NYT invented nonexistent threats to the US and West by Russia, China, North Korea and Iran.
Unlike US-dominated NATO and apartheid Israel — waging forever wars on humanity — the above four nations prioritize peace, stability and cooperative relations with other nations.
Seeking confrontation with none, they oppose warmaking.
Yet the Times falsely called them nuclear threats — what applies to the US, UK, France and Israel, not the above four countries.
Defying reality, the Times falsely claimed that “America’s partners in Europe and Asia feel vulnerable” — a bald-faced Big Lie at a time when the only threats these nations face are invented, not real.
The Times repeated the long ago debunked claim about Iran being “several months from producing enough fissile material to make a nuclear bomb” it never sought, doesn’t now and wants eliminated everywhere.
There’s nothing remotely menacing about Iran, Russia, China and North Korea.
In stark contrast, when major wars erupt, US, NATO, and Israeli dirty hands are virtually always behind them.
Hardliners in Washington and their press agents like the Times invent national security threats that don’t exist to justify their unjustifiable imperial rage to dominate other countries.
It’s been this way throughout the post-WW II period.
Separately in response to Iran’s letter to the IAEA about halting its voluntary implementation of the Additional Protocol because of Biden’s continuation of maximum pressure that includes refusal to lift illegally imposed sanctions, a WSJ propaganda piece misreported about what Tehran announced to be implemented on Feb. 23.
Claiming Iran intends to “tightly restrict (IAEA) inspectors’ access (to its nuclear facilities) if US sanctions (aren’t) lifted” is a bald-faced Big Lie.
Compounding it, the Journal falsely claimed that Iran “warned it would tear up much of the international monitoring of its nuclear activities next week if the US doesn’t lift economic sanctions (sic).”
Instead of reporting accurately on Iran’s intentions, the Journal invented its own falsified reality.
Islamic Republic envoy to Vienna-based International Organizations Kazzem Qaribabadi set the record straight, saying the following:
“We have submitted a letter on stopping the voluntary implementation of the additional protocol of Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) to the IAEA Director-General.”
The move complies with legislation titled the “Strategic Counteractive Plan for Lifting Sanctions and Safeguarding Iranian People’s Rights” passed by parliament.
“From now on, Iran’s cooperation with the IAEA will continue only on the basis of safeguarding obligations until lifting all sanctions practically paves the way for Iran to re-implement these measures.”
Separately, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said Tehran is obligated to comply with parliamentary legislation.
“Accordingly, inspections beyond the safeguards agreements will be stopped, and this means the supervisions that Iran has accepted within the framework of the Additional Protocol and it does not mean stopping all supervisions.”
Iran will keep fulfilling some…inspections (as required by the NPT), but the Additional Protocol will definitely be stopped.”
Step taken are easily reversible in short order if scofflaws USA, UK, France and Germany comply with their mandatory JCPOA obligations.
Their refusal leaves Iran no choice but to act as explained, its legitimate right.
Khatibzadeh slammed the Biden regime for continuing Trump-imposed maximum pressure and illegal sanctions.
He correctly called the policy a “crime against the Iranian people and disregard for international laws.”
Last month, Iran’s UN envoy Majid Takht Ravanchi stressed that his government “repeatedly demanded the US to return to the nuclear deal and this return should be complete and without preconditions, that is to say, no issue related or unrelated to the nuclear deal should be put forward for discussion,” adding:
“It should only be clear that the US international undertakings cannot be half-fulfilled.”
“If they claim to return to the nuclear deal, this return should be accompanied by the full implementation of their undertakings with no hesitation or controversy.”
Iran’s actions to defend its interests in the face of endless US-led Western hostility toward the nation and its people fully complies with its international law obligations.
Instead of explaining the above to set the record straight, the Journal and other US media falsely blame Iran for US-led Western crimes against its sovereignty and rights of its people.
Longstanding — establishment media supported — US-led Western hostility toward Iran is virtually certain to continue as long as its free from imperial control.
