Dead End Western Relations with Russia
by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)
US/EU relations with Russia have been eroding since Putin succeeded Boris Yeltsin as Russian president.
A Western darling, he presided over
Russia’s lost decade.
His adoption of US shock therapy produced economic genocide.
Western interests profited at the expense of millions of exploited Russians.
Yeltsin let corruption and criminality flourish. One scandal followed others. Grand theft became sport. So did money laundering.
Billions in stolen wealth were secreted in Western banks and offshore tax havens.
Most Russians despised him. Putin turned things around dramatically.
Today he’s a preeminent world leader, towering over his inferior Western counterparts, especially in the US.
He’s reviled for turning things around in Russia, for serving its people, not Western interests like his predecessor.
Russian/US-led Western relations reached a new low after Obama/Biden’s 2014 coup replaced democratic governance in Ukraine with Nazi-infested/pro-Western fascist tyranny.
Since unelected Biden denied Trump a second term he won, Russian/US relations plunged to new lows.
On Monday, Sergey Lavrov said virtually no Russian relations with the EU exist.
His remark applies to the US. Whatever greatly eroded bilateral relations existed during Trump’s tenure are gone — destroyed by Biden regime hardliners.
During talks with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, Lavrov said the following:
“(T)he global situation is (complicated by US-dominated) Western” efforts to pursue their own interests at the expense of Russia, China and other nations.
“We need to mobilize our supporters while defending justice and the principles of the UN Charter which, as I have repeatedly said, are being increasingly ignored by Western” nations.
“They are trying to invent their own rules and to impose them on all others.”
Russia and China won’t play their game, while actions they take will fully comply with UN Charter principles and other international law.
Their way — according to the rule of law — is worlds apart from how the US dominated West operates, a hostile agenda that weakens them longterm.
Russia and China agree about “the destructive character of US aspirations to undermine the UN-centric international legal framework by using the military-political alliances of the Cold War period and creating similar closed alliances.”
Asked about how Russia intends to circumvent the Western dollar/euro international payment systems, Lavrov said the following:
“For many years,” Russia has been trading in its own currency and those of its trading partners.
“This is the imperative of our time. The people behind the global monetary system suddenly decided they were unhappy with the way other countries, in particular China, are using this system.”
“China is beating the West at its own game. Hence, the (hostile) reaction of the US.”
“You cannot do global business by means of ultimatums and sanctions, or force other countries to” obey hegemonic rules.
On the issue of unlawful US/Western sanctions on Russia and China, ruling authorities of both countries will respond in their own way at a time of their choosing, and in accordance with international law.
China already acted against EU sanction. Perhaps other steps will follow
While both countries ally against no others, they won’t tolerate abusive actions by the US and West.
As Sino/Russian relations grow stronger, Lavrov said Moscow has “no relations with the EU.”
“The infrastructure was destroyed by unilateral decisions made by Brussels.”
“If and when the Europeans decide to eliminate this anomaly in contacts with their largest neighbor, we will be ready to build up relations between us on the basis of equality and a search for a balance of interest.”
“But so far, all has been quiet on the Western front, whereas the East offers a very intense agenda, which is getting more varied every single year.”
Hopefully Lavrov’s above remarks apply to the US, Russia’s main adversary.
Its ruling regimes and Congress are hellbent on weakening, isolating, and undermining Russia and China by whatever it take to achieve their aims.
It’s a foolhardy agenda, a failed one.
As China, Russia, Iran, and other nations rise in prominence on the world stage, the decadent US and other Western countries are declining for refusing to change their wicked ways.
