Implacable US Hostility Toward Iran
by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)
On Wednesday, special aide for international affairs to Iran’s parliament Speaker Hossein Amir Abdollahian said the following:
“US insistence on talks with Iran isn’t new.”
“We negotiated with (Dems) and Republicans, but they clearly infringed commitments and betrayed us.”
“Negotiations for negotiations is a deceit.”
Abdollahian stressed that the Biden regime’s only option is lifting all illegally imposed sanctions on Iran.
Based on its actions, its hardline geopolitical team refuses to lift what never should have been imposed on Iran in the first place.
According to Iranian political analyst Seyed Mostafa Khoshcheshm, the Biden regime is procrastinating.
It unacceptably seeks to indirectly engage in “marathon talks to wear off Iran’s resolve, i.e. its demands for a total removal of all sanctions imposed on the nation in the past four years and a verification of the lifting of the sanctions.”
It unacceptably seeks a longer duration and stronger nuclear deal that includes demands no responsible Iranian government would accept.
“Iran needs to stand firm to keep the meetings focused on the removal of all sanctions,” Khoshcheshm stressed.
At his Wednesday press briefing, interventionist Blinken’s spokesman Price once again set the record straight on Biden regime policy toward Iran, saying the following:
“(W)e are not and will not offer any unilateral gestures or incentives to sweeten any sort of deal or to induce Iran back to the negotiating table or to a better position at that negotiating table,” adding:
Biden regime hardliners and its imperial partners will hold “Iran to account for…its human rights abuses (sic), its support for terrorism (sic), its (legitimate) ballistic missile program” — for defense, not offense like US-dominated NATO and Israel and operate.
Returning to the JCPOA in its original form by the US is “insufficient because we seek not only a longer and stronger deal, but over the longer term, working with partners in the region, follow-on agreements to address (the above invented) issues.”
“(W)e don’t need…agreements for us to hold Iran to account for its behavior (sic), because we will continue to do that right now.”
The above remarks show that Biden regime hardliners aren’t serious about good faith indirect talks with Iran, returning to JCPOA compliance, or lifting illegal sanctions.
Talks in Vienna so far and whatever follows ahead may be exercises in futility by Iran.
What took years of negotiations to agree on JCPOA adoption by P5+1 countries and Iran was erased by a stroke of Trump’s pen.
Biden regime hardliners are no different. Unlawful US maximum pressure continues on Iran with no signs of easing.
Both right wings of the US war party can never be trusted, their word never their bond.
On Wednesday, Iranian President Rouhani was uncharacteristically optimistic, saying two days of talks began a “new chapter” with the US.
Continuing talks alone was agreed on in Vienna, no breakthroughs with hegemon USA.
For over 42 years, its policy toward Iran has been and continues to be regime change — wanting the Islamic Republic transformed into a subservient US vassal state.
The same policy holds toward all nations free from its control.
There’s nothing benign about the scourge of its imperial rage to control planet earth, its resources and populations — no change in its hardline hostility toward Iran and other sovereign independent nations.
A Final Comment
On Wednesday, an unnamed senior Iranian official said his government “will not accept a division of the Trump-era sanctions into JCPOA-related (ones) and (others) unrelated to the” nuclear deal.
“(A)ll (illegal US) sanctions — including (ones imposed by the Obama/Biden regime) and… Trump-era (ones) labeled non-nuclear — must be terminated.”
“Iran’s condition for returning to its (July 2015) JCPOA commitments is the lasting removal of all the sanctions” with US/E 3 guarantees of not reimposing them.
Chances for this to be achieved are virtually nil.
The same thing applies to anything remotely resembling good faith by the US in direct or indirect dealings with Iran.
Accept perhaps for tinkering around the edges, Biden regime hardliners have no intention to lift sanctions on Iran or return to the JCPOA as affirmed by Security Council Res. 2231.
Efforts by Iran, Russia and China to save the landmark agreement in its original form most likely will fail.
