Good Faith Negotiations Not in Washington’s DNA
by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)
Washington doesn’t negotiate with sovereign independent countries. It makes one-sided demands.
Direct or indirect talks with nations free from its control are doomed to fail even if initially appearing to succeed.
Time and again, US promises are hollow.
Not worth the paper they’re written on, sooner or later they’re breached. It happens time and again.
It’s why talks with the US are exercising in futility, a waste of time.
Regardless of what’s pledged, its ruling regimes can never be trusted.
Since JCPOA talks began on April 6 between Iran, E 3 countries, Russia and China, no progress was made on getting the Biden regime to lift all illegally imposed sanctions on the Islamic Republic by its predecessor — or other key issues.
Last month after meeting with Netanyahu in Israel, interventionist Blinken defied reality by saying the following:
“(W)e haven’t yet seen is whether Iran is ready and willing to make a decision to do what it has to do (sic).”
“That’s the test and we don’t yet have an answer (sic).”
Fact: Iran is in full compliance with its JCPOA obligations.
Fact: Steps it took well after Trump’s illegal abandonment of the landmark agreement are permitted by Articles 26 and 36 of the deal.
Fact: In sharp contrast, the US and E 3 continue to breach their JCPOA obligations — while falsely blaming Iran for their own noncompliance, as well as time and again resurrecting the long ago debunked canard about Iranian “bomb” development.
What never existed, doesn’t now.
The whole world knows that Israel is the only regional nuclear armed and dangerous state, but nary a word of it is heard in the West — just Big Lies about Iran and other countries free from US hegemonic control.
On Tuesday, Iran’s chief negotiator in Vienna Abbas Araqchi said nearly two months of talks failed to achieve breakthroughs on key issues.
After multiple rounds of talks, they remain unresolved.
Iran’s Nour News accused the US and Britain of “maniulat(ing) talks to please Israel” at the expense coming into compliance with their JCPOA obligations.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh accused their ruling regimes of changing the goals of Vienna talks.
Along with falsely suggesting that Iran may seek to develop nukes, Blinken doubled down on his Big Lies by spuriously accusing Tehran of “destabilizing actions in the region” — how the US-dominated NATO, Israel, and their partners operate, not the Islamic Republic.
Since Blinken and other Biden regime hardliners vowed to return to JCPOA compliance, they took no concrete steps to fulfill their pledge in over four months since replacing Trump by brazen election theft.
Before beginning the fifth round of talks in Vienna last week, Araqchi said “important issues still need to be resolved.”
While not directly participating in talks, the Biden regime obstructed resolution of key issues.
It suggests impasse, a likely reality all sides are reluctant to admit.
As long as intractable issues remain unresolved and Biden regime hardliners refuse to lift all illegally imposed sanctions by their predecessor — their policy at this time — talks will remain at impasse no matter how long they continue.
It’s unreported precisely what Blinken and Netanyahu discussed.
He and dominant Israeli hardliners are militantly against resurrecting the JCPOA by Washington’s return to compliance.
Given longstanding one-sided US support for all things Israel and hostility toward Iran since its 1979 liberating revolution, it’s hard imagining hardliners in charge of both wings of the US war party changing their positions on both countries.
For now JCPOA talks continue, a 6th round likely to follow the current one, perhaps more rounds for weeks or longer ahead.
If hardliners in charge of Biden’s geopolitical agenda were serious about returning to JCPOA compliance and lifting illegally imposed sanctions, no rounds would have been needed at all.
Instead they drag on with no resolution of key issues and refusal of the Biden regime to lift all illegally imposed sanctions on Iran.
If unchanged, the latter position is a deal-breaker.
While nothing is certain and surprises possible, impasse appears to be where things are heading.
If so, Iran will be falsely blamed for the Biden regime’s breach of international law on all things related to the JCPOA and Islamic Republic.
