Straight Talk by Iranian Diplomats
by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)
On July 20, Iranian Foreign Minister Zarif’s letter to pro-Western UN secretary general Guterres documented six years of failure to implement binding JCPOA provisions by the US and E3 countries, saying:
On the “sixth anniversary of the unanimous adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2231 (2015), I wrote a summarizing letter to” Guterres.
It presents clear evidence of flagrant US/E3 breaches of binding international law — what’s virtually certain to remain unchanged during Vienna talks on this issue.
Zarif’s material was detailed and precise about egregious US/E3 “transgressions” — along with continuing their longstanding war on Iran by illegal “economic pressure and blackmail.”
It presents “a chronology of implementation issues, which started long before Trump took office in January 2017.”
It “substantiate(s) every assertion that has been made, but I do not claim to present the whole story.”
“I am confident that my domestic and international detractors will find much to disagree with and criticize in” the material to their disgrace.
It’s “published in English and Persian simultaneously for transparency, and ease of reference.”
“I can make one categorical statement.”
“None of my letters to the Coordinator of the JCPOA Joint Commission, all of which were distributed to every JCPOA Participant, were ever rebutted by any one of them.”
“Th(ey) (have) nothing legal or logical to say” to rebut what’s indisputable — what Zarif called “self-evident facts.”
In stark contrast to full Iranian compliance with its nuclear deal obligations and rule of law overall, the US and E3 flagrantly breached what they’re obligated to observe.
At the same time, the US and E3 falsely blame Iran and other nations free from their control for their own lawbreaking.
What continues since undemocratic Dems usurped power by election rigging is clear proof that both right wings of the US war party have no intention of complying with JCPOA provisions.
It’s clear as well that no matter how long Vienna talks go on, diabolical US/E3 policy toward Iran will remain hardline — in breach of international law with no prospect for turning things around.
Zarif stressed that longstanding US policy asserts that “what’s mine is mine and what’s yours is negotiable.”
The Biden regime and E3 continue decades of economic terrorism against Iranians that’s all about waging war on the country and its people by other means.
US-colonized Britain, France and Germany pretend to support JCPOA provisions.
Their noncompliance is notably clear since May 2018.
At the same time, “they sought to conceal their multiple cases of significant non-performance by calling for a ‘Trump deal’ in clear violation of Paragraphs 28 and 29 of the JCPOA, and Operative Paragraph 2 of UNSCR 2231 (2015),” Zarif explained, adding:
“As history has shown, the Iranian people have throughout the course of their millennia-old and glorious civilization triumphed over intimidation, coercion or extortion.”
Iran “remains prepared to reciprocally contribute to serious efforts to revive the full implementation of the JCPOA by all in an atmosphere of good faith, equal footing and mutual respect.”
Hardline US/E3 regimes have other aims in mind.
They’re all about wanting sovereign Iran transformed into a pro-Western vassal state under puppet rule — what the vast majority of its 83 million people reject.
Zarif knows that his good faith letter to US/Western puppet Guterres won’t change a thing.
In its current form, the JCPOA is virtually DOA.
Separately on Wednesday, Iran’s Deputy UN envoy Zahra Ershadi slammed the scourge of Zionist tyranny as follows during a Security Council session on “The Situation in the Middle East (West Asia), including the Palestinian Question,” saying:
“The Council’s decades-long utter and inexcusable inaction has seriously emboldened (Israeli) regime(s) to commit more crimes with more brutality.”
She slammed the US for shielding Israel from Security Council condemnation of its actions — by Washington’s veto power.
“The latest example of such measures was the act of the US in May 2021,” she stressed.
It blocked “the Security Council from issuing even a simple press statement calling for an end to Israel’s bombardment of Gaza” — supporting its aggression instead.
Since inception of the Jewish state in May 1948 — especially since usurping control over the Occupied Territories — Israeli ruling regimes denied Palestinians their right to life, dignity, liberation, self-defense, self-determination, and their own sovereign independent state.
“The Security Council must put an immediate end to this unjustifiable and unacceptable trend and to compel the Israeli regime to cease, immediately and completely, all its crimes against Palestinians,” as well as against neighboring Syria and Lebanon, Ershadi stressed.
It’s long past time to hold its ruling “regime(s) accountable for” high crimes of war and against humanity too egregious to ignore.
The same applies to hegemon USA and its imperial partners.
